CT-Mini & CT-Midi: Auto/Manual Won’t Switch? Try This.

If your CT-Mini or CT-Midi doesn’t kick on in Auto/Tool mode—or won’t leave it—work through these quick checks. If behavior persists, book diagnostics and we’ll pinpoint the board, selector, or socket fault.

🔧 Book Diagnostics — $79.99 (credited if repair approved)📞 Call 214-994-8121

TL;DR: Most “won’t switch” issues trace to the Auto/Tool selector, the tool socket/current sensing, or the control board. Rule out simple causes (dial at zero, clogged contacts, weak tool draw) before assuming electronics. Our diagnostic is $79.99 and is applied to the repair if you approve; parts billed as needed.

1) Suction Dial at Zero

  • 🎚️ In Manual, turn the suction dial up and listen for motor change.
  • 🧪 If the dial does nothing, the control path may be faulty.

2) Auto/Tool Selector Dirty or Worn

  • 🧼 Fine dust/carbon can insulate contacts. Cycle the selector 10–15 times.
  • 🔍 If the selector feels loose or inconsistent, it may need service.

3) Tool Socket / Current Sensing

  • 🔌 Plug a known, higher-draw tool (e.g., sander on high) into the CT.
  • ⚡ If Auto still won’t engage but Manual works, suspect socket/board.

4) Delayed Start Behavior

  • ⏱️ There’s a short delay by design; wait a moment after starting the tool.
  • 🔁 If it surges or pulses, board logic or sensor thresholds may be off.

5) Power Source & Cord Fit

  • 🔌 Test a different outlet and verify the Plug-It/lead fits tight.
  • 🧩 Loose mains or adapters can mimic Auto/Tool faults.

6) Internal Leaks Masking Response

  • 🧳 Replace bag, clean/replace filter, inspect lid gasket & hose cuffs.
  • 🌬️ If Manual pull seems weak, fix flow first, then retest Auto.

Two Fast Tests

  • 🧪 Auto vs. Manual Baseline: With a tool plugged into the CT, run the tool at full. If the CT won’t start in Auto but runs strong in Manual, the sensor path (socket/board) is likely at fault.
  • 🧼 Selector Exercise: Cycle Auto/Manual 10–15 times, then tap the unit gently and try again. Temporary improvement suggests dirty/oxidized contacts.

When to Book Diagnostics: Manual works but Auto won’t engage, Auto surges/pulses, the selector is inconsistent, or the dial feels “dead.” We’ll confirm the culprit (selector, socket, or control board). Diagnostic is $79.99 (labor only) and is credited toward the repair if you approve. Parts are quoted after testing.

FAQs

Is there a startup delay in Auto mode?

Yes, a short delay is normal. If the CT never starts, the issue is likely selector contacts, socket sensing, or the control board. Manual works but Auto doesn’t—what does that mean?

Manual bypasses the tool-current sensor. If Manual is fine, focus on the socket/board/selector path rather than motor or airflow. How much is diagnostics?

Diagnostics are $79.99 (labor only). If you approve the repair, we apply that fee to the repair. Parts are quoted after testing.
